Neutrals or Brights?

You know how you are supposed to “eat the rainbow” when it comes to fruits and veggies?Well I shop the rainbow. I have a closetful of extremely colorful clothes. From my mango-colored Jcrew wool sweater to my aquamarine long cardigan, there isn’t one color that I’m lacking.

And I think the colors are beautiful and they used to suit me very well. But now they no longer feel like “me.” I am a SAHM to 2 daughters. I’m in my thirties. And I’m ready for something new, something a bit more grown up. No colored jeans for me, thanks.I think a more toned down and neutral focused look is a bit more sophisticated and grown up. The women whose clothes I admire are often dressed simply but elegantly dressed in a neutral palette with some great accessories. I think that when moving toward  dressing this way its of utmost importance to buy high quality items. So my plan to overhaul my wardrobe goes like this…

1.Edit closet ruthlessly. Have I worn it in the past year? No? Out it goes! I am going to try and stick to colors like black, white, ivory, navy, shades of gray, shades of brown, olive green, burgundy, and a few shots of other colors. I will be getting rid of everything else.

2.Acquire (slowly) new high-quality and versatile items.  The foreseeable difficulties with this will be controlling the impulse buys. I am often drawn to things that, while pretty, don’t often get much wear. I need to step back and ask myself if it fits into my new wardrobe guidelines.

I’ve already started. Check out my progress

Goodbye mango colored shirts.

I love love love this wrap by White+Warren. I got it on sale for $200 which is reasonable considering the quality. It is gorgeous and versatile and the color is lovely. A step in the right direction I think.
